Business Development / B2B Marketing Intern

Sparrho is looking for an enthusiastic Business Development / B2B Marketing Intern to join our growing team in London. You will assist with outbound lead generation, which includes planning, creating and executing email campaigns and other B2B marketing content, analysing statistics and suggesting improvements, following up leads and booking meetings, procuring contact lists and other ad hoc tasks. Reporting to our Head of Commercial, you will be an important part of our continued growth.

The right person will be a self-starter, have killer instinct, the ability to work in a fast changing environment and be a great networker. Reporting to our Head of Commercial, you will be a key person in our continued growth.

About the Role

You will be:

  • Responsible for all phases of the sales process, from generating leads to closing deals
  • Educating and building trust with your customers
  • Translating client requirements into product solutions

Skills and experience desired

  • University degree
  • Minimum 2 years of successfully selling B2B (SaaS or digital solutions) to enterprise customers (experience with the pharmaceutical industry a plus)
  • Proven ability to create leads from cold calls and/or emails
  • Great communication skills, both speaking and writing
  • A knack for understanding customer needs
  • You should be a self-starter but not afraid to ask for help

Our ideal candidate is an all-rounded team player who is equally comfortable executing day-to-day tasks, deriving solutions to automate repetitive tasks, and contributing to high-level product and user engagement strategy.

About the Role

Oue ideal candidate has a background in scientific research, combined with a proven passion for science communication. We’re seeking someone who can engage and inspire our existing community of global Sparrho users online and offline, whilst growing awareness and accelerating user acquisition for the platform by tapping into the wealth of data generated by our users and within our existing content database, and taking advantage of automation solutions.

Working closely with our Head of Core Platform, the role has a high degree of autonomy and offers opportunities to interact with the full spectrum of stakeholders in scientific research, from funders and policymakers, to academic and industrial researchers, to patient families and citizen scientists.

As our Growth Scientist, you will shape and scale up Sparrho’s campaign-based, content-driven community outreach, contributing to a resilient growth engine for our high-growth startup.

You will be:

  • Showcasing the possibilities of the Sparrho platform and the value of Sparrho’s exclusive content to existing and potential user groups
  • Developing and scaling up a long-term our community growth strategy aligned with our core business objectives
  • Uncovering valuable data-backed insights to improven UX and accelerate growth of Sparrho’s platform
  • Crafting high quality content that caters to our target audiences
  • Supporting our events strategy

Essential skills and experience

  • Scientific research background (PhD)
  • A people’s person
  • A passion for and experience in communicating science to audiences outside of academia
  • Attention to detail in execution, but never losing the big picture

Ideal experience

  • Creative mind for implementing multichannel user acquisition and engagement tactics
  • Comfortable with analysis of web analytics and large data sets as it relates to creating strategies and campaigns

Full-Stack Clojure Developer

We’re looking for an amazing all-round dev to join our team. Someone who picks up new languages for fun, understands ideas half way through the explanation, and hits things with a hammer (real or metaphorical) to find out how they work. Skill and flexibility are key to this role.

Our technology is the foundation of everything we do, and we’ll use whatever’s available to give users a response faster than they can blink, even across 60 million+ pieces of content. Our core stack is Clojurescript - Om/React on the front end, Node.js on the back end - with PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch to keep our data front and center, Redis for sub-millisecond lookups, and Docker to keep everything on AWS running smoothly.

You’ll be joining a small team and moving quickly - you’ll need the experience to make the right technical decisions to build fast, scalable tech that the business needs: everything from content acquisition to performance tuning, from UI changes to totally new product features.

You will be:

  • Putting together major, brand new site functionality for both users and commercial partners
  • Upgrading our current tech stack and staying on top of the latest developments to make sure we’re always using the best tools for the job
  • Keeping web servers lightning fast under any load they might experience
  • Working with publisher and provider data to keep content flowing to our users
  • Ensuring that search clusters and database servers maintain peak performance as incoming content increases

Essential skills and experience
